The details of Barry Chuckle’s funeral have been announced by his family less than a week after his death.

Comedy legend Barry, who was one half of iconic duo The Chuckle Brothers, died on 5 August after a secret battle with bone cancer.

His family, including younger brother Paul Chuckle, have now invited fans of the 73-year-old to pay their respects at the service.

Barry’s funeral will take place at New York Stadium in the star’s hometown of Rotherham on 17 August.

New York Stadium is home of Rotherham United Football Club, of which Barry and Paul are honorary life presidents.

Although fans will not be able to attend the service held in the 12,000 capacity stadium, they have been invited to line the streets outside the venue.

In a statement, Barry’s family wrote: “As a family we would welcome fans to celebrate his life and pay their respects with us, outside of New York stadium.

“There is an event for invited family and close friends which respectfully is private and by invite only.

“We are overwhelmed with the love and support we have received over the last few days, and thank everyone concerned.”

Barry’s secret battle with bone cancer was revealed shortly after his death by his brother Jimmy Patton.

He told The Sun Online: “We are all devastated. Barry had bone cancer which had spread to his lungs.

“He was ill for years but kept it hidden. We all knew about it, but kept it quiet, and all the family are really hurting right now.”
