Jael Strauss, who was a star on series eight of America’s Next Top Model, has passed away just two months after she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis.

TMZ reports that Jael died in a hospice on Tuesday 4 December around 11am. 

The star had begun chemotherapy for her stage four breast cancer, but decided to stop by Halloween and entered a hospice by Thanksgiving.

After going into hospice care, Jael wrote on her Facebook page: “First night in hospice. So many things I never knew about life. Or death. So many things.”

In a statement to TMZ after her death, Jael’s family wrote: “The one blessing was that we were able to show her how loved she was before she passed. She brought so much light to people.”

Jael announced her devastating cancer diagnosis on Facebook in October, heartbreakingly telling fans: “I don’t want to die.”

In her statement, she wrote: “I was gonna write some long thing but some of you guys deserve to know. On October 2nd I was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. It has aggressively spread throughout my body and is incurable.

“With treatment it may prolong my life longer than the ‘few months’ doctors said I could make it. I don’t want to die. I need another one of those miracles that I got back in 2013.”

Her 2013 miracle came after an addiction to crystal meth made her homeless. However, after a televised intervention on Dr Phil, she had recently celebrated five years of sobriety.

In August, the star shared an update on her wellbeing, writing to her 5,349 Instagram followers: “Today I have 5 years sober. Good God! I know a few things to be true: Miracles are real, Recovery is possible for everyone no matter how far gone you think you are, We are never too broken to be put back together, Service work feels better than the greatest high, Sobriety makes you weirder not normal.

“I’d be dead if it weren’t for all the love and forgiveness I’ve been showered with by my friends and family. 

“Thank you to anyone that’s ever let me sponsor them. Thank you to my partner Cody Bear for showing me what real love is like.

“Thank you to all my beautiful family (blood and extended). Because of this gift I have no friends, only family. Love you all! Keep up the good fight.”

Following the news of her diagnosis, her partner Cody wrote on Facebook: “Hello friends, a quick update on Jael. She is currently sleeping soundly here at the hospital tonight. Tomorrow she undergoes her second round of chemotherapy. She has continued to fight and has maintained an optimistic outlook throughout her treatment. 

“Thank you all SO much for the amazing outpouring of support! The road ahead may be quite long and challenging at times, and your continued support, love and prayers are needed.”

Jael competed on the Tyra Banks fronted modelling show in 2007, finishing in a respectable sixth place.
