However, viewers at home have spotted three big points that could help to prove Belle’s innocence.

Viewers firstly argued that Belle couldn’t have had anything to do with Chrissie and Lawrence White’s deaths as not only was she not in the car, but how could she have known Lachlan would have survived?

“So if they were both in on the crash so they could be together, how EXACTLY did they PRE-PLAN the part where Lachlan survived?? Maybe I should join this police force,” tweeted one viewer.

While another questioned: “How she supposed to have caused the car crash which killed his mother and grandad, plus she wasn’t in the area when all the other stuff happened. Dimwit Police!”

Meanwhile, Belle was hit by Robert’s car as she tried to escape Lachlan’s clutches, with fans pointing out that she wouldn’t have been in such a desperate hurry if she was in cahoots with her boyfriend.

“How can Belle have been involved seriously she ran in to an oncoming speeding car !!!  Does that sound like she was in on it….. come on #emmerdale sort it out!” raged an exasperated fan.

While another frustrated watcher added: “Ffs like they would think belle had something to do with it just because he’s said so, when he took her hostage and she got ran over running away from him.”

Finally, viewers also spotted that Robert would be able to confirm that Belle was just as shocked as he was to find out about the murders, as they were both held hostage by the villain when the death bombshells were revealed.
