Last week the pair, who were both in relationships at the time, were pictured kissing in the street, leading to Seann’s long-time girlfriend to end their relationship.
Rebecca Humphries announced their split in a scathing statement which Seann responded to during his chat with It Takes Two host Zoe Ball.
He said: “First of all, I would rather not be having to address this publicly but I feel like I have to.
“I made a mistake which I am very sorry for. You never think about the extent of the damage you’re going to do in the moment of the mistake you’ve made.”
Alluding to his ex, he continued: “I’m not perfect, far from it, our relationship wasn’t perfect, this doesn’t mean I wanted it to end the way that it finally did.”

Seann added: “I think it’s also important for me to say that the people that know me the most, the people that love me, know that I am not the person I’m being portrayed as.
“It’s very important for me to get that out there.”
Taking to Twitter earlier this week, Rebecca told her social media followers: “It’s incredibly good of Seann and Katya to apologise in the media. I have received nothing, other than the support of my family, friends, and a host of strangers on the internet who all wanted to make sure I was OK.
“What I have also kindly received are many offers to sell my side of the story, but I would prefer for it to be on my own terms. I was alone at home when Seann texted at 10pm saying the two of them were going for one innocent drink.
“We spoke and I told him, not for the first time, that his actions over the past three weeks had led me to believe something inappropriate was going on.”
She ended her statement with: “I hope he gets what he wants from this. I’m not sorry I took the cat.”
Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday on BBC One, while It Takes Two airs weeknights at 6.30pm on BBC Two.
